Make it in work public else you may get some not very flattering votes. ;) Go to Comment

Needs some more meat on the bones, but gave me the kick to post a new submission. Come on people, surely you can find some minor magic to add.

Its a great idea for a scroll! I am always fascinated by any non-weapon item, with a more-than-meets-the-eye back story. Will add.

Is this supposed to be a scroll or a wiki?  My understanding is anyone should be able to edit the body of the sub, and so be able to put in the new items to appear as one big sub?

Otherwise I miss the point of doing it in this style.

Ok. This idea is more suited to a scroll then a wiki anyway. I was interested in why it was selected. Go to Comment

The Needles of Zhi and Wu (Acupuncture Needle)

Description:

A set of acupuncture needles ordinary in every way except that they are of a green colour as if made of jade, rumoured to be so potent in healing properties that even revival of the dead are achievable.

The Origin:

These needles are the tools of trade of Bian Que, the miracle doctor of the Era of Spring and Fall. It was rumoured that Bian Que is in fact the offspring of the Goddess of Mercy and is a divine entity himself. According to such sources, these needles have developed direct healing qualities themselves as a result of prolonged contact with Bian Que with his godly presence pervading this set of tools.

Current whereabouts:

Unknown- Immediately following the end of the Era of Spring and Fall comes the Period of the Warring States, a time of turmoil accompanied by many refugees of wars fleeing the Dragon Empire for more peaceful outlying regions. It was speculated that Bian Que and his family might have been among such refugees.

Note: This is historical fiction since it is genuinely recorded in Chinese history that there was a miracle working doctor known as Bian Que active during what is known as the Spring and Autumn and the Warring States Period.

This is supposed to be a Wiki to the extent I thought this will be a fun submission that everyone can contribute items towards if they want to so putting it as a Wiki is just a way of throwing the sub 'open' so to speak. Since you are able to put in that two lines into the sub, it seems that the 'anyone can edit and have it appear as 1 seamless sub' part does work.

As to why this is currently in 'scroll' format, maybe it's because Muro and I used the 'add an idea' button to add our items (actually I couldn't remember what I did exactly but seeing the "user submitted ideas(2)" header I speculated what's what we did)?

Personally I actually thought the 'scroll' format suits this submission more since it's gonna be a list of items (with short descriptions) and if the format is just one big sub without line breaks it's going to be very hard on the eyes.

A fairly standard ghost story; as is, it doesn't really speak to me.  Still, you did a lot with your 250-word limit, and I suppose that I can't really expect loads of detail with those kinds of strictures.  Perhaps if you ran it with the right accompanying soundtrack, this piece would really have the chance to shine.

Nice little summary of revenants and such. It works well as a stub, but I'd love to see it fleshed out more.

Nobody gives general codices the love they deserve. Instead of seeing them as organizationals, they measure them against submissions, thinking they need all the description, detail, and meat of a submission. When really, they just need a strong summary and an explanation as to why these pieces are grouped together. Remember, short is not a crime, incomplete is the crime.

To be honest, you don't need the freetext. If you put everything in the codex, the freetext is redundent. If you use the freetext, the codex is redundent. In this case, keep the codex and lose the freetext, as it is more useful and you don't have to have people edit their submissions to join the connection.

Now I do believe we have one or two more fabric related submissions around here somewhere. We need to find them and link them to this. Go to Comment

The Codex intro can maybe use a few more lines. I understand that its a "holder" for like-minded subs, but still, a few lines about the silks, or fabrics in games, or something. Probably doesn't need the "P.S." stuff.

Having said that, the silks themselves are awesome(!), and as i mentioned on one of them, i'll be using this stuff in my campaigns going forward. I love the different silks!

I actually think "Fantasy Silks" is a better name for this grouping. After all, they are silks, and they are from the worlds of fantasy. However, "Fantasy Fabrics" can open this codex up to more and more fabrics!

Anyway, the silks are great! And, uhh-- I'll stop rambling now. Go to Comment

well yes, you're right of course. I actually have a sub on sericulture here somewhere, but from a fantasy perspective I see no reason a culture could not use the name, "silk" for other fabrics, especially magic ones, such as ones derived from tree sap or ice. It would be more of a societal name for the stuff, no? I mean it could be as simple as,

"look what I made!"
"what is it, it feels like silk?"
"Uhh--yes, well, I call it flame-silk. Nice, eh?"

You know, that kinda thing. Besides, it would be easier to market the stuff with the "fancy" silk sobriquet

Hmm, I'm suddenly getting the urge to make a new type of "velvet" Go to Comment

PCs camp for the night in a dry pine forest. Fire skill of the person that made it is usually pretty good, but during the first watch the unexpected happens: a spark lights the surrounding woods and a brush fire quickly starts. Be quick or it could turn into a disaster that could affect the entire region.
