Sweet work! Like Manfred I have enjoyed this during the span of several days. It is not always in line with my vision of treemen which would be darker and more alien. But it is a well presented, usable and well written submission and we don't have too many of those these days!

Bravo sir. Go to Comment

I agree with Cheka here. This is how I like the 30's - each rich with potential. I know this is a step beyond the original definition of the 30s, but I like these better.

Well done Echo! Go to Comment

This is fantastic. Definitely going to inspire me to use tree people in anything I write. And not the tired, cliched old tree people, but really putting some character into them! Go to Comment

Two of Pinker's research assistants are working on ways to make the effect switch off after three days of continuous use or project a warning to others that the ring bearer may be infectious. Go to Comment

A lovely piece that needs an entire setting rewritten around it. All those little magics easily available is going to change a lot about the world.

Basically, you have magi-punk and magi-tech going on here. All your modern conviences as imagined from the magical view. Magi-tech because many things that would be tech are simply magic here.

The world will be a very different place if this stuff is mass produced enough to be really this cheap. Go to Comment

The Pest Protector

In a land as wet as Lyra, one often has to deal with noxious gnats, moskitoes and even the dreaded mosquigo, long like a man's arm.
Pinker and Strotz have garnered praise upon praise for this trinket, which drives the annoying bloodsuckers away, or, in the case of the deluxe model, zaps them with a magical discharge. The deluxe model also has a broader field of application, frying even lice and ticks, but is significantly more expensive. Still, even the basic model is worth a few coins to almost everyone.
