I wanted more. I think the comments pointed out a few things that are needed to help propel it into the realm of usage. I was searching for purpose and a "why" to this religion. What does it offer that the old gods didn't? I do like the description and explanation on burial and ranks and such, but need some plot seeds or something to make me understand what and why for it. Like it and for what is there it is useable, would just love some more info as this could be a great submission!

Most terrible are the merciful gods.

In a time of trouble, fanatics rise to the fore, sometimes able to subdue what has survived from centuries. People searching for an escape of their uneasy life (the fixation on death and life beyond), or a cause to join will seek such a religion. Believable.

What I would ask is, are there any more principles for people to follow if they are of this religion? Stuff like killing is bad (witches excluded), though shalt not steal, etc. There must be an agenda besides burning unbelievers. Anybody could claim to be a follower of Ion, so there must be instructions how to lead your life, how to worship him, etc. Simply believing in Him will not bring you in His Palace. Go to Comment

The write up is good, as far as it goes. It misses a few points (as noted above) and does not imply the answers. That makes this religion seem like a paper front, rather than a real organization. The write up of the church seems focused on anti-magic aspect (i.e. anyone doing wonder working that is not clerical to Ion). Go to Comment

Wanders a bit, and I felt like the Merciful and Glorious Ion was just a bash-up of Catholicism with some hate witches and the burial customs. Feels very bare bones, and elitist. What does the Faith offer to the common people? Go to Comment

This could be alot better if it even just glossed over how an Ionite was the live their life, as has been said before. But besides that, as a religion that the PCs and don't follow this is solid enough. Go to Comment

The other comments really say what is needed here. Right now they feel like cardboard cutout villains to fill the 'burn the witch'. There is good drama potential with how they deal with heretic priests and the like.

MoonHunter's comment on 2006-07-05 02:20 PM
The word he was trying to use was hematophagous, another blood eating label.

The write up was complete and had a few nice hooks.

Evil Humanoid Monsters with some interesting elements. The blood magic/ blood biomoprhic abilities are a nice touch. However, these things probably eat other things in addition to the blood... as the blood seems to be kept for special occasions.

It seems their society is a bit too extreme to be believable in my book, but hey... they are the powerful evil mooks. Go to Comment

pseudo-vampire uber-lizardmen with a dragon fixation...

I'm not 100% sure on this but I think the term would be hemovore (blood-eater). Go to Comment

I had a very draconic feel for them about midway through.

I like the concept of them, from their creation to their organization. While I agree with Moon on the excessiveness of their social behavior I think it could be worked with into a believable format.

I personally always had a dislike for hollow teeth in an agressive monster, should they get damaged can they heal or be replaced similar ala shark teeth?

The religion section had me a bit off until this statement, "They are not able to comprehend the meaning of “faith” and the idea of an invisible higher power strikes them as a madness infecting the weaker races of the world." That statement did the entire section for me and made it more real. All in all a good job. Go to Comment

I guess they're trined from birth to be eternaly vigilant, lest one of thier playmates should steal their favorite knife from them. Later in life I wouldn't be suprised if they join Youth League, a la 1984, later in life and betray any elder around them, being too young to effectively kill someone that's been looking over their back longer than the kid's been alive. Engine Prototype #4 (Catastroph)
Items  (Other)   (Villanous)
MoonHunter's comment on 2006-05-20 11:17 AM
The name of the piece is distracting. Calling it Engine#4 does not make it any better than calling it one of the other names. I mean, has it continued to be called #4, rather than some other name?

I like the various logs and reports. That is an interesting choice for presentation.

The write ups on exactly what it looks like and what it does and its' issues, are not completely clear. The general statistics are not an issue. Some of the pieces are too brief and need more fleshing out. Go to Comment
