In some ways interesting, in some ways weird.

In any _somewhat_ realistic world you will never get to actually having 500.000 gold, so no problem with spellcasting. And I think the monster would be also pretty BIG by the time. Conversely, you need to be somewhat wealthy to make it useful. A three-gold golem won't be very useful I guess.

Combat may look ironic, as each hit produces a spray of money. But if not collected, the monster could in theory regenerate, so watch out.

The item looks ideal for high-level, inflated game-worlds. Not exactly my thing, but the idea has something interesting. Go to Comment

Taxus had it, this time.
I'm not even sure if I totally understand what it really does- do you place a crapload of them in a golem and see if it casts a spell? Or do you attach it to the golem? Or what?

Oh! So the coin starts a "coin golem" of sorts.
Interesting... I actually like it, now. The backstory isn't very fleshed out, but it'll do. I'd scrap the spell thing, and run it through a spell check, but other than that, I'd say that I'd like to promote it to...

Akuma: May I suggest that you type up your item/npc/ setting posts in a word processor, run the spelling and grammer checkers, then cut and paste it into the site. That way you don't have to be good at spelling and grammer, the computer will do it for you AND you will have spiffy posts. Go to Comment

The basics first. Punctuation, grammar and typing in general.

Then to the item itself

How? When? Why? Who? for what purpose? Consequences of making (if any)?

That is to say, it's a nice item, but it lacks all the stories it deserves. A nice idea, but there's nothing around the idea. This seems like a raw idea, please work out the details and edit them to this post. Go to Comment

I must ask, does it matter where you attach the coin to, or does it just kind of move to the right place? I just had an image of a golem who would walk, say in a treasure chamber where the floor would be full of gold coins... Those legs would sure grow fast. Go to Comment

Silas the Destroyer's comment on 2004-11-07 12:20 PM
It is an excellent idea, albeit a flawed one. It needs a storyline! It bugs me when items just appear and have no means of creation. I once wrote a 12-page history about a glowing stick, only to scrap it because it wouldn't fit with my game story. To me, story is everything. for that I give it a...

So yes, when this thing walks into a dragon's treasure hoard, the giant reptile sure will get quite angry very soon. Soon enough to stop an aggressive mountain of money?
Actually a convenient way to carry your cash - but so obvious! Go to Comment

Ancient Gamer's comment on 2006-01-22 04:53 PM
My thoughts went to Tokyo TV and their Medabots tv show. In that show the fighting robots had coins that contained the soul of the robot. It was inserted into the back of the robot.

Following the "magic is the fantasy equivalent to technology" principle, this is a conversion from technical robots to fantasy golems.

I love the idea though. Love it. It has so much promise... Portable souls, construction set magic items, you name it. Potential. Go to Comment

The best thing to do is work on grammar and histroy, then it would at least be decent.

Edited Item. And I am apologizing now for my bad grammer, because I was never really any good at it. Most likely it will stay just as bad, sorry. Go to Comment

Chaosmark's comment on 2005-11-08 03:09 PM
Perhaps this was the result of some erratic wizard who happened to want a way to store and protect his money, but didn't want to have it all stuck in one place where a thief could get at it easily. Hence the money golem. The spells? Well, the wizard didn't quite want any thieves pummelling his defenseless golem because they all have the same spells. So he varied things up. Truth be told, this sounds like a Corvus item... Go to Comment

This does have potential.

Take a look at other subs and flesh it out more. Take peoples advise on spellchecking.
If you need a word processor, check out OpenOffice (Google it). It's free and it works well.

You're the author - the mage's name need not be lost to history. I've suggested before that one can have the Players History which can be vague, incomplete and wrong, and then the GM's history which provides the GM what he needs to know about the item. Go to Comment

Ouroboros's comment on 2008-04-03 09:51 AM
I´ll give this 1,5/5, purely because it is an idea with a lot of potential.
This post is also a good example that an idea needs exploration in-depth and creative development before it is presented to anyone.
Me, I think it´s sad that this really interesting idea never recieved that attention and, therefore, became stillborn. It could have been so much more....

I would have put this in the hall of dishonour, if we had one.... Not because it´s a bad idea in itself, but because a post needs work.
