It's a fantasy virtual reality helmet? Interesting idea, and nice execution, but I'm not sure I would want to use it. Much like I don't tend to use drugs or addiction in most of my fantasy games, this feels like it would hinder the game more than help it. Not bad.
I think I would rather send my players to a place then simply have them play it like a game. That said, it is an interesting item and I think could be used, perhaps with some alteration. Go to Comment
They still suffer the effects of starvation and dehydration because that is the cursed part of the item. They can live without it, but they still suffer.
As for what wound they could take, bricks, stones, ropes and good ol' fists are not metal or wood.
This isn't my best, I might even move it to flesh it out. I just felt the need to lead by example. Go to Comment
pretty good. I would have liked to find out what happened to Lord Ster. Also, if the shroud wearer does not need food or water, why do they still suffer the effects of starvation and dehydration?
I understand that Lord Ster donned the shroud out of fear of ending up like his wife, but that still does not explain why anyone else would want to. Another thing; if the shroud wearer can pass through metal and wood, how could they suffer any wound at all?
Good idea, needs more in depth explanation.

Yes, there should be a way to activate its power, to not hinder ordinary walking or running, as Obsidian Shadow noted. Maybe the usual command word, brief concentration, the "swimming motions", whatever you prefer.
Still an interesting item, and weird in a way magical items should be. Any second wizard can think of a Cloak of Feather Fall (or Flying for that matter), this item is likely to stay unique. And I like this kind of uniqueness.
Question: Does the wearer actually have to make the motions one makes while swimming or does the cloak do that on it's own? If the former, you would have to have extraordinary stamina and edurance to get anywhere. It's like going to to the store that's 4 miles away; would you rather swim or walk?
Good idea, needs work. Go to Comment
Tying flight time to endurance is great. As Cheka said, its a great, 'natural' limitation which makes it more interesting then the typical ring/cloak of flight.
It is even better than my Translator of Political Corectness. It has even strawberry kiwi flavour... *sigh* ...and the corpses will be consumed. Go to Comment
