Wow; thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions! I had initially written this as a somewhat silly sidebar adventure; something I could throw at my players without derailing them too far from their main quests, but perhaps I should revisit this at some point. Go to Comment

Update:

This ended up being woven into a much larger plot; a mysterious benefactor was financing the operation. The PCs also discovered that the meatsmen were being directed to "expand" their business; in other words, start kidnapping human children from homesteads and farms, while leaving "evidence" that orcs are behind it. On the surface level, it appears that this benefactor is trying to cause problems between the orc and human settlements. There are some deeper threads this relates to which I really don't want to expound on, for fear of one of my players stumbling across it.

I'm running this in a campaign environment which has very much a "great north frontier" feel; very sparsely populated, and few civilized establishments more than a couple decades old. The concept of canibalism, wendigos, and struggling for survival against magically brutal climates play a major role. Go to Comment

Not a moment too soon; pressed for time and with some rural encounters coming up, I need something to fill in the backdrop. Cheka Man to the rescue! Very nice; enought detail for quick use, but vague enough to allow for potential hooks and subplots. I like! Go to Comment

I ended up using this list on a recent adventure; I was in a pinch for quick and diverse assortment of homesteaders, and this list did the job quite nicely.  Thanks again!

Excellent detail; I could really envision how this puppy might look and handle. You included some very realistic stats and drawbacks; painting a clear picture of ideal situations wherin this gun can be utilized, as well as situations where its usefullness would be greatly reduced.

Where can I get me one? Go to Comment
The Ring of Cold Embers

slartibartfast's comment on 2009-03-13 08:14 AM
Ok, but I think it needs a little more to set it apart from the typical ring of invisibility. Forged by a witch for use by witches, would it make sense to have the ring behave differently in the hands of a true witch as opposed to any female?

What about warlocks (or whatever name you care to use for male witches)? What is it about being female that sparks the magic of the ring? Is it that all females are supposedly witches at heart? ;) Go to Comment

I really like this idea; a very novel concept. I think that the backstory needs a bit more; although nice, it does not quite match the creativity shown in the concept. Withholding my vote in case you decide to do more with the backstory. Go to Comment

Came across this as was searching for something else. 30 staves? Who needs 'em? Didn't think I did, but after browsing through this, I just gotta stick a couple of these in my campaign. This will definitely breathe life into an oft-overlooked item. Well-written, flavorful, and fun. Excellent! Go to Comment

This fun idea has the potential for a cute sideline, but perhaps a story line as well; with an advanced world or dimension which has become completely enslaved by goblins. They are looking to enslave this one as well, and "probing" the denizens for their weaknesses (pardon the pun). Go to Comment

This is good; really good. Amphibians generally don't scare me, but this has an exquisitely creepy flavor to it that makes the skin crawl. Go to Comment

Very nice. I can't help but think of those boots the guys from KISS used to wear; back when they did all the makeup. Couple minor punctuation nits and I'd like to see a hook or two, but I think its a very original idea. Nice work! 4/5 Go to Comment

I used this in my campaign as one of several attractions in a festival.  It added quite a bit of color and was a hit with the fighter of the group.  Very well done!

I ended up using this dungeon in my campaign; I was surprised as to how freaked out my players got.  Ended up as an exciting and memorable adventure (although the PCs decided to turn tail when they hit the fifth level.)  Excellent submission, and highly-playable adventure to boot.
