Really well thought out: lots of meaty information and a nmumber of loose ends and mysteries for expansion. Wonderful! Go to Comment

Thanks for the thoughtful comments on Halan.

"niece's family even though they had gotten religion after the plague"
I didn't know religion was a disease. :P

Some people think so, but that's another submission.

Thanks for your insightful and complimentary comments on my first submission.
I have to confess that the two schools of vampirism were suggested by Chaosium RuneQuest 2 & 3, but they only had one in the field at a time.
As for developing the feud
between Halan and his ex-apprentice's cult and exposing the differences between them,, I will likely post more on the subject soon.

The idea of a sacrifice is a good one. Perhaps it would be too restrictive to require that the prize ram would have to be given to the original dragon (or maybe by now its offpring.).

If that dragon were slain, would the item stop working? Perhaps a quest to find the dragon's cousin be mounted? Go to Comment

I like this one. Very well thought-out creative use of small-scale magic, although the flashing bit might be too flashy :)...

Perhaps a neighbouring land's wizards want to get their hands on a seal to "reverse-engineer" it (or whatever it is you do to magic items.). Or maybe forget to return the thing. I vaguely recall reading that something similar happened (with ordinary MSS of course) between Athens and the library at Alexandria. Go to Comment

"The gold coins carry a stigma. The bearer might be more likely to get mugged violently."
There is a fine natural justice here. Very nice.

What if a liche, repenting of his dreary existence, seeks out Chary to use her powers to come back to life, and facing her realizes that that is not the right thing to do? What effect would such a creature have on Chary? Go to Comment

Pithy and succinct. As Fallu found out, it definitely falls under the rubric of "Be careful what you wish for." Go to Comment

Patterns in surnames: There are many ways a surname could have evolved over centuries. One possibility is migration. A Roman name may have traveled to France and hence to England where it was later Anglicized. Case in point - the surname Lawrence went from Laurentius (Roman) to Laurent (French) to Lawrence (English) and then to Lowry (Scottish). There is also natural etymological evolution. For example, a Middle English spelling may have evolved to a modern English spelling (e.g. Stiward to Stewart). Where did your character's Surname come from?
