olontur's comment on 2012-07-10 04:26 AM
An interesting planet. Yet I miss some details: How does it propel itself thru space? And how fast? If it is so dependent on sunlight as stated, it would need to stay in a more or less constant orbit around a star. How do the nutrient uptake and light needs relate...

If you'd presented the Qulam's origin somewhat more mystical or even magical I wouldn't have asked. But you've given some (pseudo)scientific explanations, the temperature of the heart for example, that I got curious.

Thanks OmegaDraco! The Qualm is much more plausible now, and I especially enjoy the visuals of a handful of ├╝ber-monsters fighting their way into the core.

Scras, to things that make me love this post and show how brilliant a writer you are:

"... ghosts of the dead who are blown around by the desert winds." Can be as much literal as lyrical and certainly can seed tons of encounters.

"The Casablanca Feel" is just incredibly thought out!

Is the drawback really a drawback?

Being a fan of subtle magics, I'd prefer the horn to be just luck-fortifying, more so as I cannot find why poisonous or molten hot mists would be useful to a simple, however brave, shepherd. The refreshing/healing property fits quite well though.

How about a calming tune, especially for your herds? Or a warding tune against predators prowling about? Both would help any shepherd.

Now that I come to think of it, many shepherds I've met (that's quite a few I must add), often lose some of their animals. Maybe playing on the horn would be a homing beacon for any lost ram?

A drawback could be a ongoing sacrifice, like a prize ram sacrificed a year. Alternately, wild sheep might get attracted to your ewes and steal away with some of them. Then again, the few that return bear extra vigorous and beautiful kids. Go to Comment

I have to agree with all above comments. The "artistic flair to really set it apart" may be missing, but as it is, it's sweet, useful and to the point.
Adding a handful of "persons" into the sub could be what's missing, say, a certain elder, a prophet, a leech (mentally) out of order, etc.

Also, I think a society like their's, fixed on philosophy would provide for incredible roleplaying opportunities, as their minds should be literally alien from the PC's... Go to Comment

This isn't what you usually see on Strolen. ;)

I really like it, though personally in a modern game, I'd prefer a psychopath to a cultist, and that would fit the Monster quest even better, but that's just my personal opinion...

Good work!

Enjoyed it a lot!

I wouldn't think this is the best way to collect soldiers for a cause, though, as it would require extreme patience and care. But for more powerful and worthwhile individuals, like the PCs... *evil laughter*
