Gaming is Like Pizza

Taxus's comment on 2005-12-16 11:25 AM
The point is very true, but this isn't anything extremely special, I think. These tips are the same almost everywhere, this just applied them to the near-every-gamer's-heart concept, pizza.

Still, most amusing. Plus, re-reading this things is the way to wisdom and better gaming. Go to Comment
The Evil Brothers
Plots  (Discovery)   (Single-Storyline)
Taxus's comment on 2005-08-23 08:29 AM
Lion King?

Err, something constructive to say... What about some background of the village and the ravine? What about the brothers, why is the other one good and the other evil? Where they raised in different places? Why why why why who why when how why. Those are pretty much the basic questions. When you answer those, the post's value skyrockets. In my eyes anyway.

Errrr... I'm puzzled right now. So this here FM is a reeeally really young lad, just learning to read and write, making this stuff up? And this here is written by his brother? Go to Comment

Well, Captain I don't think that the "+3" part is hard to figure out in any way. Other than that, you're propably right.

Magical weapons just are created by mages, you must face it. But yeah, the background could do with boosting. Why was he blackmailed to do it? Why did he do a sword like that? What were the consequences of making the said sword, if there were any?

I liked the cross-translation part.

Taxus's comment on 2004-11-02 07:42 AM
The basics first. Punctuation, grammar and typing in general.

Then to the item itself

How? When? Why? Who? for what purpose? Consequences of making (if any)?

That is to say, it's a nice item, but it lacks all the stories it deserves. A nice idea, but there's nothing around the idea. This seems like a raw idea, please work out the details and edit them to this post. Go to Comment

I must ask, does it matter where you attach the coin to, or does it just kind of move to the right place? I just had an image of a golem who would walk, say in a treasure chamber where the floor would be full of gold coins... Those legs would sure grow fast. Go to Comment
Lost Artifact
Plots  (Hired)   (Side-Quest)
Taxus's comment on 2004-10-31 01:56 AM
Don't be so harsh, Captain. The plot's rough and, yes, full of cliches, but nevertheless it's a plot that will take the PC's to a nice little adventure in the ruins of long lost city and so on and so on.

But still, I'd recommend editing too. Like Captain said(asked), why only a mage? Wouldn't any linquistic do? Why is the gem a portal, how was it created, by whom and why? And yes, why is the barrier between the two worlds weakening. If you could add these things, it would give the plot more realistic sense and so on.

I'm going to withhold my vote until it's edited. Go to Comment

Ok. I know that I'm being bitchy, but if you used Apollo and Hades, why did you change Ares and Zeus?

Also, eventhough I complained about people complaining about this: please don't use game specific stats. Because I honestly don't know what the heck you're talking about in the magic properties section. Something about chances of blinding and the time of effect?

I want to defend my honor! And first and foremost, I'll apologize if you were offended by my post. My point was not to offend you but I was just puzzled why the names were Zues and Aires, instead of Zeus and Ares, like I've seen them. (Mind you I haven't even heard the other styles before this).

And for the second part, I really, honestly didn't know what the description was about, so it felt logical for me to comment on that, don't you think? So, once again, my point was not to offend, but maybe my "thoughts-to-words" -process was a little flawed. Go to Comment
Korrney
NPCs  (Scenario Based)   (Mystical)
Taxus's comment on 2004-09-08 10:36 AM
I have a question. If Korrney could get enormous powers with the bell, why hasn't he already used it in a town of, say, 2 millions of people? Then he would be like a god. Hasn't this occurred to him or something?

Anyways, a good character, with strong points, and weak points to make him feel real, not some munchkin guy, with powers to blast you into oblivion in the blink of an eye. Strong background, although finding the lost city was almost funny, the way he did it, it's a wonder it wasn't found before. Anyway.

A bit short, don't you think? Though it gives all the information that you really need for it, although the "a wizard/witch did it" -explanation is always a bit... ah, well, it really has all the things it _needs_, though short and lacking in details that would give it more depth. A basic description, so I'll give it a basic rating.

Huh? I haven't voted and it says "Thank you for voting"? ...Nice.

Anyway, good effect, but lacks background and the link which makes it worthwile to use in your game.

And like Captain Penguin said(/asked) who made it? For what end and purpose? How did he/she lose it, if did? Where is it now, is it known? etc.

3/5, due to the good effect, although. Go to Comment

Taxus's comment on 2004-05-18 10:05 AM
The first one DOES seem a bit extreme to me too. That a person fighting with a dagger of this kind would almost always hit his target. But when you think about it, damage made with a dagger isn't so much that you can't stand it. It would be even better if the damage was half the weapons original with this kind of a hit, though.

I just have one question to ask. If you throw this kind of a dagger at your opponent wielding a sword, will it always hit?

Taxus's comment on 2004-04-11 05:09 AM
Yes. This is just that kind of an item, which you can give to your players and laugh when they get themselves into trouble. and who said that being a DM isn't fun, with or without butter?

Seriously then, I don't see anything wrong with this item. It is not powerful and not that kind of an item which would destroy everything immediately. Of course it can get you into trouble, but nothing too overpowerin, I would imagine. I like this item. Go to Comment
Glacier Mail
Items  (Armor)   (Magical)
Taxus's comment on 2004-01-26 09:06 AM
Why was the Glacier Mail gifted to this woman? Was she supposed to become some kind of a high priestess of the Water Goddess, when she received a gift of this much power?

It's a good item, though it's a bit too powerful to my taste. Wouldn't this plate be too cold to wear even for the wearer? Or doesn't it somehow radiate the cold inside, or doesn't it touch the wearer?

And I'm not a medical doctor, but I suppose that if a big wound gets too much cold, it must have side-effects, doesn't it?

Still, a good item. Go to Comment

Taxus's comment on 2003-11-30 11:19 AM
Yeah, well I quess then that I should concentrate more on the general describing. Thanks for the tip. This item is propably the best I have ever thought of and I'm pretty proud of it.

And for the bonding part: The mages created it, but it is possible that they didn't think every possibility through. The sword could have a mind of it's own, and it could break the bond after the wielder is dead. The mages may have not known this and buried the sword with it.

And for MoonHunter: I have never played those. I have heard of Ars magica, but they are unfamiliar to me. Go to Comment
The gems of Madvar
Plots  (Discovery)   (Single-Storyline)
Taxus's comment on 2003-11-29 02:24 AM
Thanks for the comment. It's up to the DM really, how it goes forward, the emperor might believe them and perhaps give them another task of some sort, but actually he might get pretty suspicious when the PCs return the gems so fast, and that may lead to a scenario or two.

And if you decide to add this to a campaign, then remember that the emperor is losing his sanity, and the peasantry will no doubt hear about this when time passes. Then the rumour will wander into other nations. There's another plot.

About the "deposing". The PCs might get involved yeah, if the peasantry creates some sort of a rebel faction. In fact, they almost have to, because they were the ones who returned the gems. You must remember though, that Madvar has a pretty big army and the emperor is a careful man, and pretty intelligent, although almost mad. Go to Comment

And to describe just one world into a category. It would be too much of work for most of us. It requires so many things to describe. Go to Comment
