That is a very interesting take on it. I've read the Potter books, seen the movies, I enjoyed them but I never really took it to the roleplay level. Elemental sorting is a very fun idea, and these familiar do fit in quite well with that. Great idea! Have some xp. Go to Comment

This is a neat little submission. A little madness, nice tragedy, bit of a hostile planet scenario. Overall: Thought-provoking. I could see using this on a smaller scale as well, in a fantasy setting. Far Ocean, God-From-Beyond-the-Stars with complete control of it. Turns out it's just lonely, wants to babble at people, and thats why no one makes it past the Edge of the World Waters. Cool.

As the others said, I agree with the others.

Hulking magi-mutants frenzied by religon. Not bad. It's been done but that's not a problem. The thought of an entire month without sleep is horrifying, especially when combined with the thoughts of what kind of stimulents, magical, physical, and chemical, these Samites would have to employ to achieve that without killing the subject. Not bad at all.

Neat. I've always has a soft spot for the khopesh, and remarkably usable weapons of less suitable materials. Flavor is good, names are great, history is fun. Solid.

This is a really cool idea. Could probably be a nice fairytale of sorts about the powers of friendship with a little work. Great tale, with useful hooks. Nice one.

Hm. A hammer that lays down an area of darkness. Interesting item, never would have thought to use a hammer for something like this. The story is decent as well, I love the idea of a prisoner miner busting into a secret chamber. That's good stuff. Why is all the text bold? No point deduction, but it's ugly and cramped (in my opinion). You also have 3 or 4 blank lines at the top of the page, why? Do some formatting, pretty it up. But, the all important content is still nice.

Pretty cool. Very nice item with well-placed minor magic abilities, but much larger potential for social/diplomatic encounters. Good job.

Interesting. I enjoyed this tale of a Garbage Hell and its disgusting hoarders. There are a few parts that beg for more detail, like the insidious, trap-laying Trash Golems. Overall, it was a good little tale and moral lesson. It seems like it would be easily placed into many settings, which is nice, and is a perfect way to get your players to relinquish their precious treasures if they happen to get too many. Seems like a lot of sacrifice for little reward, but that is Hell for you.

More information on Shabow Boxing and Masters of the Shadow-Physical Arts -

Well, it seems one of our students is a bit more interested in Shadow Boxing and, in particular, its relation to the Longstrider Technique.

You see that the Shadow-Physical Arts rely on using Shadow as an extention of yourself. With Shadow Boxing, you touch someone with your Shadow and cause then harm. With the Longstrider Technique you are extending your Shadow in a very similar way but then, and this is a very difficult Technique to master and use quickly, force your physical body to travel the legths of your Shadow. As it is being used as an extension of yourself, it is often considered related to Shadow Boxing, but in truth Shadow Boxing is only the first step towards learning Longstriding. The proper name for this area of study is Shadow-Physical Arts and I am sorry for misleading you.

This article is scary. The name, the tone. The message, intent and application aren't, but damn. Reading this gave me a sense of impending doom, fear of the Hammer's retribution. I'm curious though, with articles such as Silv's and Mourn's and a few others about how to vote and act here, will we be allowed to discuss voting practices when the subject is so blatantly brought up or are those types of submissions now discouraged?

In any case, I'm not sure if this is a neccesary implementation. Only because it sounds harsh compared to how lax the Citadel has always been. Just remember what old Unlce Ben said, with great power comes great responsibility.

A New Take on Hell

The idea is a solid one: New takes on Hell. But I think the article itself could have a lot more to do with creating said Hells and offering some. I read it and thought, "Ok, there's some examples of cliche hells, then it says don't use any of that," I'll see what I can do about writing up a bit more on the subject of New Hells.

A New Take on Hell

Pieh's comment on 2011-08-07 09:35 PM

Hell? What makes Hell a hellish place? It's not the fire and brimstone, it's not the demons and devils: Hell is a place where you go because you are being punished. It should be completely unenjoyable to the person(s) being punished and should represent something they fear the most. Not "It's going to kill you!" fear, but rather pure core-shattering fright at being exposed to something you abhor for extended periods of time.

Hell could be: Standing on a slowly descending platform... As you creep towards the darkness below, you begin to notice nook and crannies in the walls, caves filled with people, people being tortured, people you know. As you go deeper and deeper, you can't help but stare and watch as everyone you ever knew, loved, suffers a miserable fate. How do you escape from a scenario such as this? The man who sacrificed so much for so many must now become the reaper. You must assault and murder a visage of the one you love the most. Then you're free to go.

Hell could be: Eternal drowning, stuck in a loop of waking up only to realize you were just dreaming, being baked in an oven by giant loafs of bread, an embassing fall from a chair and other events of humiliation in front of large audiences. I think you get the idea. Run with it. Make Hell the worst place the victims can imagine going. The idea of Adventurers in Hell isn't that the Hell will suit them, but possibly someone they need to find, or at the least everyone around them.

Very nice article. It certainly makes a lot of sense, is logical, and an easy read. I doubt it will change the way I vote much (Though I find it already creeping up on my as I vote on this one). My voting practices, like much of what I do, are nowhere near as coherent as this. I applaud and thank you for being able to write this and for taking the time to write this. Good work.

Giant Psychic Leech Lords from Outer Space
Lifeforms  (Intelligent Species)   (Swamp)
Pieh's comment on 2011-07-20 06:15 PM

I almost love this. It reminds me of that old Attack of the Giant Leeches horror movie, a true classic, and that helps make the idea of giant man-eating leeches appear readily in my mind. I want more though. This is a great write-up, but it feels like it lacks the scope of an entire planet rules by the Leech Lords. What of thier living arrangements? Is the planet's physical appearance similar to Dagobah's? ...And similar questions should be answered. As a final thought, what I reaaaally want, is some fluff on the subject. Maybe some Leechish philosophical musings? Or an example conversation between Hume and Human? More plot hooks would be lovely as well.

It's very nice as is, the idea itself is great and useable, but I feel like it lacks the "artistic flair to set it apart."

Good work.

The villages around the capital have a strange new disease cropping up. Spread by a fungus (much like ergot poisoning), it causes its victims to be very sensitive to sunlight. Hundreds of peasants are hiding from the sun, only coming out in the darkness to labor in the fields. Unfortunately, rumor makes their behavior sound more sinister and secretive than it really is.
