First Encounters with an Unknown Tribe

Even with communication, whether by spell or translator, there are lots of possibilities for conflict. Yesterday I have read an article on the Smithsonian site called "Sleeping with cannibals". Even while it was possible to talk with that tribe, the Korowai of New Guinee, their beliefs in witch-men impersonating loved ones, or that white people where ghosts, made the trip quite dangerous.

The Korowai also belief that their main god forbids contact with the white men. Seeing how many tribes suffer after first contact, might this be a smart move of a canny shaman? Go to Comment

Impressive item, with short but good description. Better even that strictly spoken it is not evil, though an evil act might be more easily commited due to the emotional exces. I imagine a paladin becoming a blackguard by using this, unless he is truly exceptional and manages to stay true to the code - sounds like a good opportunity for roleplay. Go to Comment

Great article, but please do not continue before I have taken some aspirin. This is good for both a the mad mage building an impossible tower, as for the spaceship that jumps outside of the space-time continium. Go to Comment

Good corporation for any futuristic game, just change what they deal in to fit into your setting of choice. Go to Comment

Gems of the Underworld

Phaidros's comment on 2014-01-31 10:57 AM
While at first this seems very similar to the Demon Jade entry, the detailed description of how the stones vary in their effects, and how the Infernal profit while mortals are weakened by them, make this a more interesting scroll.

One thing that is not clear to me: how difficult is it to recognize these crystals? If the effect is magical, can any mage with "detect magic" identify them? If the effect is non-magical, something inherent to the crystal, then knowing your gems becomes a lot more important! A well-meaning wizard, crafting a magic sword to help the noble paladin, might unknowingly set him on the path of corruption! Buying magic items with gems in it would be potentially very dangerous, possibly requiring certificates and testing, thus opening a black market for less distinguishing clients...

A beast of a man, a worthy adversary for liberal adventurers, or a valuable patron of more amoral & ruthless groups. This king and his kingdom offer many opportunities for adventures, whether as background or more directly. Go to Comment

A very nice idea, with good flavor text, but can use some more detail. These Samahen definately need some explanation, and is the manner of creation of the Chosen truly magical, or something pseudo-scientific? And what were the wars these hulking brutes were used in?

Creepy prison, with many relevant details yet vague enough to be easy to fit to any setting. Seems to be a good place to "cool down" abusive PCs, and end up with a new adventure. Now where is that list of interesting prisoners?

Phaidros's comment on 2012-03-02 09:43 AM
Brutal, but unfortunately something quite realistic. In real life, murders sanctioned by the government, have been committed for less. I imagine that before the festival, diviners try to predict what kind of deaths can be expected, to improve the "efficiency" of the festival. Of course, if they end up wrong, they are the first "volunteers" for the next festival... Go to Comment

Was it not traditional for werewolves to have a vest made from a wolvespelt? Another common element in were-lore is that the transformed leaves behind his human skin, and if said skin was destroyed, he could not change back into human. Go to Comment
