Pariah's comment on 2014-11-03 10:16 AM
I like it, and now a word from that voice in my head that can't stop using big words.

iIn regards to the sensationalist claptrap of the, so called, Troll-Hunters Illuminated Society, a group whose members have proven themselves to posses the skills necessary in the stalking of Trolls, yet are found sorely lacking in the will required to actually follow through with the actual act of slaying the aforementioned, mask their pusillanimity in the naturalist's concern for the welfare of creatures that were, according to our forebears, once more numerous, though how far one can trust the recollections of any man, no matter how much that individual tries to avoid embellishment, when his own brain is as likely to affirm beliefs held in the core of his being as it is to frankly share with him accurate histories. While I must thank the writers for sharing the information in regards to the location of this band of Troll, I find it deplorable that a group that calls itself Troll-Slayers would claim the "Enlightened" position that the life of a group of animals that have been proven to be unable to count past three are worth more than the lives of all the sentients, some of with the authors admitted to seeing killed and eaten during their observatory period, who will surely fall victim to these beasts is an unconscionable crime, one which I will seek to immediately rectify upon my return to the region. /i

It definitely fits the old school aesthetic, which is all I'm grading this on because I'm absolutely horrible at grading NPCs, the main reason I don't normally vote on them. Ignoring minor formatting issues, it's a solid submission. Go to Comment

I like the idea of using a drinking straw as a weapon,i t helped that when I started reading my mind immediately jumped to Shadowrun. As far as the covert carrying of said stix goes, I'm a little more up in the air about though. The only ways you don't look more suspicious with them is either have them in a drink or make art with them, both of which require actually taking them out of the wrapper and possibly bending them in nonstandard ways (which means that if you DON'T use them on the job you basically need to guess if it will kill you or just make smoke). In a drink you can only really get away with 1 (2 if they're the coffee mixer/cocktail straws) per cup (as a guy, girls could presumably stash a couple in a purse) and if it's part of your arts and crafts product you're either going to need very exacting activation methods for individual straws or only use one e-stix a piece. And after getting sent to the top of the page after commenting, I feel like an idiot... It's an explosive w/ the same size/shape as a wrapped straw, not a wrapped straw that is an explosive... Go to Comment

I actually like this as a way to have a familiar without the bother of actually having a familiar. You get the supreme power of nigh infinite power in one element one the one hand, on the other you get a spirit that finds the intricacies of the bovine gastrointestinal system utterly captivating. Okay, I'm not quite sure how offensive this can be. I've read stuff like this before, not sure where though. Different order on the last two in a few of the ones I read. I guess it all comes down to the 'impartiality' of the writer. Go to Comment

Chameleon powers is something I did not think about... I saw it as simply like a smartphone screen in your forearm, or possibly in more noticable areas to do stuff like this: without the fact that actual tattoos are permanent. Go to Comment

Firstly very good dossier, now onto the questions I thought of while reading through this...

How paranoid is he exactly? I mean suitably paranoid to check for tails but does he put a piece of hair across his door to see if there have been intruders? (Black bag job) Does he check the undercarriage of his car for bombs/random GPSs? (GPS on the car ala the FBI) Is his car alarmed? (Bug the interior) Does he have a live in landlord or is there an office that closes at 5? (Break in there and borrow the master keys.) And, if all else fails, an RX 7, even in a neutral color is still a flashy car, given a well trained team, trailing him for a day or two wouldn't actually be that hard.

Potential solutions:
Columbian Solution - wire up a brick of SEMTEX to his car and firebomb his apartment.
Vehicular accident - assuming he follows a predictable route to and from the newspaper office, have a dump truck lose its brakes and T bone him in an intersection.
Suicide by cop - Make sure he sees you tailing him a couple times during the day and the have SWAT raid the wrong apartment. Accidents happen, and a man who's sure the boogie man of the intel world is out to get him will undoubtably be on a hair pin trigger. Go to Comment

Queen of Shadows, the Dreaming Darkness, the Unseen Light  (Blue/Black)

"She spoke of mystery and portent, of such unfathomable things that my mind screamed for pity."

Those who hear her go mad with inspiration

Dreams of dark nights to come are said to stir in the minds of scheming hollowsages.

"Don't look upon still waters without first breaking the surface. The korrigan will catch you with her gaze and drag you to your death."

Cinder beliefs revolve around the Path of Sorrow, a spiritual descent into oblivion. They don't mind taking others on their journey down.

Don't venture into the darkness, lest it decide not to let you leave.

Edge of the Divinity(Sword)

Helm of the Ghastlord(Helm)

"The Shamans of Marit Lage do her bidding in secret, but they do it gladly."

"Our world has not felt her thundering steps in lifetimes, but Marit Lage's presence is still with us."

"Will not the mountains quake and hills melt at the coming of the darkness? Share this vision with your enemies, Lim-Dûl, and they shall wither."

"All knowledge has its price."

"Bind me to thee, my soul to thine. I am your servant and your slave. I shall hunger for your word and thirst for your blessing. Blood for blood, flesh for flesh, Leshrac, my lord."

"Rumors persist of dark deeds performed in the depths of Soldev. When will Dagsson heed the danger therein?"

Dread Marit Lage lies dreaming, not dead.

"The mist whispers to those who know it to be more than a mundane fog."

Certain initiates into the Skirsdag cult take a vow of blindness, pledging obedience to none but demonkind.

Imorantha the Dreaming Darkness, the Unseen Light, Queen of Shadow

found in the shapes of smoke fog unbroken water she offers knowledge to those who seek her.  Goddess of magic in all its forms she exacts her price in the sanity of those who would worship her.  Images of a deathly pale maiden in a sauron-esque helm with a sword of pure darkness in her hand.  All magic is is using the forms of her dreams to alter reality, and the day she wakes again, as she did once in the past, will see the end of the world.  Her followers come in 2 different schools: Those who worship her as the Dreamer seek to wake her that she might once and for all cleanse the world of magic, while those who worship her as the Unseen seek knowledge at any price from the second most ancient of the gods.

Portfolio: Shadow, Fog, Darkness, Dreams, Knowledge, Magic, Insanity

Both orders of followers undergo a ritual whereby they're blinded and have two scars, one in each side of their face extending for about an inch up their forehead and an inch down their cheek. (Gaze of Pain)  Rumors persist that the higher level priests regain their ability to see through dark magics.

Lord of the Empty Throne, He Who Hungers, the Bloody King (Red/Black)

"His skin cuts swords."

"A great siege is a banquet to him; a long and terrible battle, the most exquisite delicacy."

"Nothing is truly your own. It is his, whether you know it or not."

"His laugh, a bellowing, deathly din, slices through the heavens, making them bleed."

Witches tempted by the power of flame gathered to study in the ruins of Spinerock Knoll.

"It's not a matter of deserving. It's a matter of strength. The power to hold versus the power to take."

Scourge of the Nobilis(Whip)

Fists of the Demigod(Gauntlets)

"The spirit of the flame is the spirit of change."

"The weak shall fall. The strong shall remain."

"He bears the marks of ages upon his skin, memories of dreams long dead and best left buried."

Runes of the Deus(Armor)

"Our friends of the forest take many forms, yet all serve the will of Freyalise."

"Here in Fyndhorn, where Freyalise's power is strongest, the forest has its own opinion."

Elves use nature as strength and borrow from the trees to keep them living. An elf out of the forest for more than a day begins to die and within 3 days is dead without borrowing the strength of nature.
