Looking for inspiration for a "raid the secret enemy military base" (i.e. dungeon!) adventure in a sci-fi setting and StumbleUpon brought me here.  Recognised the author from roleplayingtips which I really enjoy.  Up to his high standards - a simple idea, conveyed so it looks easy, and sounds effective.  I'm definitely keeping this article handy!

Great story - I agree with other posters - solid, has a history about it.

Another thought is that this would integrate into some kinds of Sci Fi quite well - I'm thinking of Dark Heresy in particular.  There are religious traditions buried in that (the Ordo Hereticus and so on) where this would fit - fight Chaos and so on.

In a more mundane way, remove the supernatural and give him the role of a local priest or some other reason to be popular - e.g. resistance to the government?  Clues there in the refusal-to-politic part of the story.

Anyway, great and very useable character.

As the PCs cross a brigde/tree over a deep river they see the glimmer of gold and jewels lying at the bottom. At further inspection they notice that it is the skeleton of a man still holding on to a sack of treasure. Will the PCs try to dive to get it? What killed the man? Did he simly not let go of the bag he could not swim to the surface with? What cleansed his bones so? Are there flesh-eating beings that dwell in the deep? Can the players resist the chanse of being wealthy for once?
