The "Vale of the Vulture-Kings, Carrion-Sages of Istandor", progresses. Albeit slowly :-)

These sentences get my imagination going! The Great Vulture has but a special liking for intelligent beings. Not necessarily eating them, but talking to them. As it is shy and few people tolerate its presence, the only chance it gets for some good talk is when a person is alone and looks unthreatening. Go to Comment

what if the key to mystery is still in the room? What if Perans opened some dimensional gate right then and there (he really allowed them to see 'deeper into the darkness') , and whatever came out of it slew the necromancers. Perans then entered this realm. A shimmering mote somewhere on the inn-room wall is the deteriorating vestige of this gate. Go to Comment

Brilliant hook...It reminds me of a potential episode for the incomparable Hercule Poirot. Leaving the what/who/why/when/where to the reader is refreshing!! Its all I need to let my own imagination take over and figure out the plot. I wish we had more subs like this. A nice hook, a bit of mystery, and THATS IT!! no lengthy essay on the particulars! Dinner Time
Plots  (Hired)   (Side-Quest)
Murometz's comment on 2011-04-25 11:37 AM

One twist here could be the "confusion" surrounding who the "foe" actually is...perhaps there are rumors/assumptions of trolls, orcs, demons, etc (take your pick) and the PCs assume the worst when reports of half-eaten farmers reach their ears. This could lead to some surprises if the PCs prepare for horrid "monsters", but instead find perfectly "normal" appearing people. This would work best perhaps, if the cannibals are not caught "dining" in-situ. I can see the exchange between PCs and Cannibals taking place on the road. The cannobals have dined and now return to their villages. The PCs warn the cannibals (who appear quite normal it must be stressed, not as deranged bone-in-nose types) about "farmers being attacked" in the area. The cannibals thank the PCs for the warning, nod, and go on their way. Much later the PCs sheepishly realize what is going on.
