They also have the Chrono Trigger soundtrack, which in my opinion is one of the best game soundtracks ever. That probably why the game was such an awesome one. There's usable stuff across the entire CD. Horror, heroic, love, sorrow, action, all of it is there. I know that when I run a Tyren game, it'll use some of those songs as background music. I love this thread. There's so much variety, I'm shocked we don't have more and more scroll entries. I myself can't push much of an opinion, since I haven't run a table-top game. Ever. Lots of ideas for one though...
I think we're looking for a slightly longer version of Short and Sweet: fully fleshed out plots within a restrictive word count; not, however, that restrictive. About 3 times the size seems right, since these are plots only.
In his defense, this was before Muro's sub, so AG was here first. I doubt this will ever make it out of in-work. Go to Comment
I read these a while ago, thought them nifty, and dismissed them (without even a vote, apparently). No longer! I find these to be one of the most unique races I've ever seen. Very nicely done Echo. Now we just need to get more submissions that relate to them. Perhaps a post or two on their society, history, origins, and notable persons? Go to Comment
*blinks* Wow, that's...quite typical of desert creatures: deadly yet beautiful at the same time. I like it, though it lacks that...Umph that would give it a 5/5. Go to Comment
C'mon! We're predominantly fantasy gamers here. Why the heck aren't there more comments and tidbits of advice clamoring for inclusion? Make this a scroll, and start adding entries.
As is, a fairly useful article. It might be nice to have it fleshed out a bit more though. Go to Comment
Interesting. This very much reminds me of the Dresden Files system of magic. (Shoutout: the DF roleplaying game is nearing completion) For those who are unfamiliar with the books, the main character is a wizard, and the way magic works is by force of will. However, if you have a large chunk of power, but little control, you need a focus to work your magic through. The focus 'focuses' your raw power into something usable. All in all, an interesting system that keeps you from needing to learn 500,000 different spells and modifiers for those spells. Go to Comment
I can see this happening to "unbelievers" or those who give lip-service to a deity, the deity in question (assuming one that can be generally classified as 'good') protecting the true worshipers and letting the others rot, perhaps as a subtle prod into actual belief.
I can also see it having different "strains," i.e. different sets of dark runes based on what 'infection' you originally got, each of which has a different end result. "Oh, that one isn't one to worry about. He just gives everyone around him the willies. We need to kill that guy though, his runes raise the dead!" A particularly crafty dark wizard might try something like this, perhaps with the undead outlook, or even just a generic buildup of dark energy within his kingdom, to make his dark arts easier to practice. While a character specific riff scroll would indeed most likely fail, what about that generic slush pile of riffs you suggested? Surely GMs could use THAT, and then players could also use it as a step-stone for their own riffs. Go to Comment
