accually try the translation again CP and you will really get water repulser.....And the Mercury needs vibrations to work right? But you have to have the right vibrations all the time, so if you make the Mercury only able to collect one vibration (say the vibration that repulses water)by making it in an alloy with the birck, and modifying it in the crystal sphere, it will only "hear" one sound and so only do one thing...no matter what noises are made, or not made, there is enough back ground noise to make it work (however it can be augmented by producing the right sound) Go to Comment
Mass is not everything, area has alot to do with it. And if you would bother to check the physics of it all, you would find that, like a hovercraft, it will inprove the spead of the vessel a great deal. Go to Comment
DL- ok in answer to the first Query, yes, to both, the sound is what shapes the effect, and the impurities in the alloy allow only some sounds.....think of the impurities as a filter for the sound. And some have made songs that can create powerful, and hiden items, simply by singing the song in the presance of pure Philosopher's Mercury.
Also it is very hard, and very dangerious to make, and simply cannot be found on just any market. And I didn't call it magical, because with magical items there is a temptation to say "Hey, It's magic, it just works." Yea, it needs some work...what is its history, why did the sea gods get angry with the village, what was it doing there in the first place, what have the merfolk done to it, what do they use it for, what does it look like, etc?

Perhaps those that practice elemental magic begin to take on characteristics associated with their chosen element. For instance, an earth elementalist might be prone to agoraphobia, while air and possibly fire elementalists might have problems with claustrophobia. Water elementalists might always seek the path of least resistance. A fire elementalist might have a cat's opinion of water. This could also apply to physical differences. Fire elementalists might have a freakishly high metabolism and a permanently high body temperature. Water elementalists would probably never get dehydrated, but might slow down a lot when it's cold. Etc, etc.
