To the first or casual observer, this island sitting out in the ocean seems normal, if not heavily covered with lush trees and foliage. To those who have extensive nautical experience know something is amiss, especially since the island is never in the same place twice.
In order to understand what a Kitsinger island is, you must first understand the people that used to live on Mt. Kitsinger. This is not only a tale of their history but a tale of their making.
A place of majestic views, amazing life, and hidden treasures. The secrets that the jungle holds in its folds are both breath taking and soul taking. When traveling to Bone Island one must be wary, not of just the tribal inhabitants and exotic creatures, but the secrets that the gods forgot.
Every city, town, or large village will have businesses. Some will be inns, some stores, and some people providing a service. And then there are some places that are not common and so out of the ordinary that we leave them off when describing a city. This codex will help with turning the mundane into the magnificent.
This is a novelty among the population and visitors alike. It is a freeform entertainment where those in the audience have the opportunity to get up on the stage and be an actor for the night. This has brought many would be actors who are trying to get hired by practicing their skills here. Entrance fees are larger than average but the entertainment is well worth it.
The roads of zone 4 of Star Lake are uniformley white. The roads are cleaned nightly once the services of this district are shut down for the evening. With few reason to be in this area at night the militia closes it off and sets a patrol to make sure it is kept clean.
The roads in zone 3 are paved with bricks of black and blue. Trees line every path and street and the buildings are uniform in appearance. All having to look the same per a city decree set in stone ages ago with the founding of the academy. This zone is where Blackrose Academy rests. It offers a view of the lake from the highest portion of the island and has the added bonus of being on the eastern side of the island affording the best view of the sunset.
All the streets in zone 2 are paved with a smooth water stone pulled form the shore of the lake. Some of the nicer houses have gutters to wash the refuse from the streets down to the harbor, but the lower houses have no such luck at having a free service such as this to clean their streets.
Houses vary from size to size, the smaller houses are closer to the warehouse and waterfront districts in zone 1. With the nicer and much larger houses being toward the better districts of zone 3. These usually house richer merchants or guild officials.
All the streets in zone 1 have been paved with red brick cobble stone. The rain gutters lead down to the dockside and the harbor where the dirt and refuse is washed away by rain and by a Service crew designated by those in the Civic District. Most of the cleaning duties are done at night when the streets are devoid of travelers. Different service crews handle different zones. One is designated for each zone as the duties required to keep up the districts and zones different slightly per zone.
Star lake is the city in which Blackrose Academy is built on. The city was originally a small spot on the way to the school but has grown into a vast city sprawling acorss the island like a weed. The city has been divided into four Zones, each one housing the different districts of the city itself.
Located at the mouth of the River Vella, Venkis has a commanding view of the Bay of Pearls. On clear nights, occasionally the lights from Stormgarde can be seen across the bay. Venkis is the major shipping port for the kingdom and deals with most of the navel aspect of the military.
Located in the northern most tip of the kingdom, it stands strong vigil over the mountain passes to the north and the sea passage to the west. Stormgarde, while a fairly good sized port, tends to be modestly populated city.
Located near the lush banks of the River Aloma, it is home to many of the most skills trackers and hunters in the region. This modestly sized town has a rather large standing militia due to the fact is it so close to the mountains and in such a hostile area.
A bastian of hope in a place of hardened souls. With enemies at one point surounding the entire country, the citizens of Kerrabar stood strong and fought their way to independence and proceeded to expand and push back the dark horde that rose against their small nation.
Located on the western banks of Meer van de Sterren, or Lake of the Stars, this modestly sized city is home to Duke Tore, the King’s boyhood friend and most loyal subject. A harbor for the island city that houses the Blackrose Academy.
Located in the southern part of the Kingdom of Kerrabar, Aadda is the strong arm that never tires. While the land to their north-east is fertile and supplies the city with the food that they need, most of the land to the south is useless and dangerous.
The Demon gates are all hidden from prying eyes, either under mountains or lost within their vast chasms. In fortresses hidden by magic, or guarded by the unknowing. A single key, if found, will open only a specific gate. However, directions to the gates location are inscribed on each key in a demonic script. Only those loyal to Caedmon, or can understand the ancient written language of the Demon’s are able to read it.
The gates are massive stone doorways standing roughly thirty feet in height and twenty feet wide and made of black granite or onyx, with scenes of a demonic horde flooding through the gate as a wave through a cistern. Horrific images of murder and unspeakable acts toward the mortal races also adorn the doors.
A city lost in time. A city in ruins. Knowledge was they key staple in the city until mortals believed they were smarter than the Gods.
Blackrose Academy was built as a center for anyone wanting to learn. It houses some of the most intelligent and brilliant minds of its time. People would come from all around to study magic, languages, warfare and tactics, among other things. But that has changed.
When the characters approach a clearing in the forest, they will see 4 ogres who are guarding, and preventing from escape, 4 human males, and 3 human females. The ogres will see the party and leap to attack. The females will scream "OUR SAVIORS!!" and run screaming straight across the currently forming battlefield, in between ogres and party members, to hide behind the rearmost party members. They will be safe there. The males will try to skirt the battle to the north side to join the women.
To the south, giants will be hiding in the thick underbrush until the party has engaged the ogres and then attack the most opportune target EXCEPT the ones that the females are next to.
It should be noted that the female commoners are not female commoners at all, nor are the male commoners actually male commoners. The female commoners are the hags, who have polymorphed themselves as the commoners in their stewpot to escape detection. The males skirting the battle are actually MORE ogres, the hags were in the process of polymorphing ALL the ogres into regular humans for ambush purposes. The REAL commoners are already dead, having found their way into the coven's cauldron for dinner.
The hags (the women) will position themselves near to any spellcasters in the rear first, and then near anyone else in the back of the fight. The ogres (the men) will wait until the hags shift form, and then attack first the rear folks, then shift into the melee.
It is possible that the characters, as they approach the ogres, will notice the giants in the bush, and be able to warn the others of the ambush.
GAME NOTES: If you sell the screaming women correctly, they will not even be suspected until it is too late. Therein lay the problem. This encounter is ESPECIALLY deadly to the rear eschelon of the party. It is entirely possible that the hags will finish off half the party before they even realize they have been duped. Caution is required if the game master wishes to avoid a TPK(total party kill).
