A brilliant and driven man, he has emerged as a major merchant from the sands of Aviansis (the hard lands of the Aviontix). He has other goals beyond mere successful merchantry. He does not want to take over the country, he wants the world… for the good of everyone.
He is the one that whispers dreams of power and conquest in the ears of those in positions of power (or positions to take said power). He not only motivates them, he gives them ideas and plans (which they think are their own) to conquer the city/ country/ world. He manipulates the weaker minds around him, so they will follow his designated puppet. Using their own greed and lusts, his puppets will destroy the world as it is now… turning it into one where Gathrack and his kin would thrive.
And who would suspect a pet cat as the instigator of a world in chaos.
Lorning is a dashing and suave minor functionary. He has no title or lands. He works with the Seneschal, procuring ducks and minor supplies. He occasionally travels to other lands just to get spices and such. In fact, he often travels with nobles visiting other courts to assist some more major domo in making appropriate arrangements. He likes travelling because he can be more extravagent on the coin of the Kingdom. Except for that he is very charismatic, he would be a total background character.
He is also the Dark Hand of the King. As an agent of great skill and cunning, he inflicts policy (death) on those the King deems, steals what the King needs, and has literally saved the world four times.
From the time of his birth he was trained by his father to lead men. He is an excellent horseman, swordman, and archer. He knows the history of his own lands, and that of the kingdom of Gwynlaith. A pity he has learned little else in the ways of the world, trechery, or women.
He is a beast and a paladin; a monster and a hero. He is a companion to heroes; a walker of the roads. He is not what you expect when you think of as a Hero or Heroic Companion, but he has saved a number of worlds.
He is also one of the largest dogs you will ever meet.
The players have possession of a simple book. It seems like just a curiosity. Then everyone came out of it and things got…. complicated.
In the middle of Noplace, which is just a bit south of NoWhere, there is a village. It seems calm, almost deserted. Eventually the furitive glances from boarded windows, people scurrying off the streets, and a few toughs keeping a careful eye on the strangers, will express the tension that can be cut with a knife.
Bromine Lake is a lake that is almost a very small inland sea. It is also special for other reasons. It always has the warmth of a living Human, no matter what the season. It is not a hot spring with its sulfuric chemicals. There are hundreds of theories, but no answers.
Even if they did, they would never believe it, as it has ties to the time of legends, to the time of Corvus.
It is an long simple key, with a crystal in the turning loop. It seems insignificant, but it is a thing of legend. Every thief in the four realms has heard of it. Scholars and madmen, and those opposing the madmen all quest for it. It is a simple key to lock or unlock anything.
This is a city deep in the hills of old Aviansis. The path to Merideth is magically obscured, so only those with the pathfinder’s gift can find it. The city is still bustling with souls after all these centuries. They trade with each other, make deals, sell things, and even send messages. Unfortunately only a few of them have warm bodies or heartbeats.
Garnar’hklorrrathhhh is a God who rules over his people who has spread across The Land. If asked about this, it would say, “I am amazed at life’s little quirks. It is all a matter of being in the right place at the right time”. You see, since the “Voop” this early lesser orb has become one of the most powerful on the planet.
Elegant weapons from a more elegant age. Their mystic power is woven from the ancient dueling code. While not the most powerful enchantments ever created, they are some of the most respected.
Blood Seekers are a class or type of mystical weapons. Like many mystic weapons, they provide the user increased speed and technique. Unlike most weapons, these can strike their specific targets with astonishing accuracy for they target the very blood of a living thing.
Made of dark steel by those of an age gone by, this is the last of the giant war golems. Taller than elder dragon is long, this clanking behemoth plods across the land, obliveous to all works of men, elves, or dwarves.
Without these stone disks, there would be no Elventi Society. It is the HearthStones that hold the society together, allowing Elves to live together and in their beloved forests.
If you follow the wide well traveled mountain road, you eventually find your way to Skyway. Nestled among the clouds, perched upon the mountain side, this tiny town is the key to many puzzles.
Some might call it a clawed glove. That would be Anthrocentric. It, and items like it, are magic weapons for being that use magic and do not use weapons, but use their claws. The Clawed Races uses these "claws" to enhance their natural combative ability.
It looks like an ordinary parchment map, until it speaks to you. It says, “I know where you need to go to find what you are looking for.” From there, the adventure begins.
Many years ago, a trader from far away died while in The City. One of the entries of his possessions was a "bag of 220 beautiful coyns". These coins were sold to a crafter who sold some of them and made others into hat band decorations, jewelry, bag clips, and so on. It was years later that someone discovered their true worth and their power. They make things move.
The city of Caulderon is the mythic flying city. Once a magnificent city on a cliff, it was saved from being lost to the sea by being lifted by alchemical means. It was filled with impossibly tall shining spires standing above golden domes. The sunlight striking it is said to blind those who come to invade the city. The people lived in this magnificent city in health, wealth, and safety. They rode Griffons and created all sorts of creature. Caulderon was known for its magic, its alchemy. In the old tongue, the word Caulder means alchemey, from the word Cauldron. It is from their alchemey that their great wealth and comfort is derieved.
Legends (and Elven History) states that the floating city would visit The Lands once every few years, blown by the winds. They would trade for things and sell their magikal goods. After a year or so, their cities would be be blown to other places. It has been over four hundred years since any credible source has seen the floating cities. It is the thing of legends.
Then why has one been seen over the Land?
Castoria was once a thriving and prosperous nation, a rich trade center for the surrounding lands. This all changed when, on one fateful night nearly a century ago, the Mist of Eternity rolled in and surrounded the land, obscuring more of the outside world as days and nights passed.
By the time the Mist blocked out the sun, a new light shone during what was assumed to be daytime: The Starpoint Spire, a mysterious place atop Castoria's highest peak in the northern-central region. Some say that there is some sort of building atop the mountain shining the dim "sunlight" onto the land, but it is only ever too bright or too dark to fully make out any structure, not to mention the mountain's immense height.
Not a month after the Spire's light lit up, the stars fell. Flaming rocks and debris from far-flung edges of space plummeted downward onto the eastern region of Castoria. Once the shower subsided, a strange energy from within the fallen stars transformed the eastern lands in what are now known as The Voidwastes, a barren gray land littered with craters and strange alien creatures (these can vary, but I had Pathfinder's Akatas in mind).
To the south, strange mechanism of eldritch origin are again at work after aeons of rest in the Ruins of Kchuthngnl, an ancient city of non-human creation that is estimated by scholars to be no less that five millennia old.
To the west, the once peaceful and serene forest, now known as The Plagued Woods, has been experiencing corruptions of the wildlife and humanoids living there. Some humans have reported creatures that appear not unlike a halfling, except that they can open their mouths to massive proportions to swallow creatures the size of an ogre.
When adventurers and citizens alike try to make an escape from Castoria, they are never seen again, and it is utterly unknown whether they found hopeful sanctuary or agonizing death withing the Mist's depths.
What is unknown to all residents of Castoria is that all of these events occurred because of the actions of a secret but powerful cult loyal to the Elder Gods who call the space between the planes their abhorrent home. The cult still lives on, larger than ever, and their plan is for the alien horrors to incubate and thrive within the dome of mist that now envelops Castoria, so that when the Elder Gods return as the cult's prophecy foretells, they will have an army of blasphemous creation at their disposal that they will use to make war with and enslave the denizens of the Material Plane.
